According to Maria Fan, Commercial Director of Viracopos International Airport, the airport's participation in Routes Americas 2026 is part of the airport's ongoing strategy to expand air connectivity of the terminal, especially in the international market.
The event took place between March 3 and 5 and, for the first time, was held in South America, with Rio de Janeiro as the host city. One of the most important congresses in the commercial aviation sector of the region, the gathering brought together aviation leaders, airports and destinations to discuss connectivity and new air routes.
According to Maria Fan, it is an opportunity to present the airport's potential, the market studies conducted and the growth opportunities in the Campinas region and in the State of São Paulo, as well as to strengthen relationships with airlines and advance negotiations for new routes and frequencies, expanding the airport's international presence.
One of the projects that the team is committed to is one that will create opportunities for routes connecting the airport to new destinations in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Middle East; as well as increase frequencies on existing routes, keeping pace with the growth in international demand recorded in recent years. However, Fan notes that these negotiations require various studies and are complex, and may take more than a year to materialize.
The Commercial Director stated that, following the event, follow-up meetings, negotiations and work to strengthen the positioning of the airport and the region as an attractive market for new operations continue, enabling increased passenger demand and, consequently, increased frequencies and expanded connectivity of Viracopos.
