The Santos Port Authority (APS) reported that it has stepped up resurfacing work on the Perimeter Avenue of the Port of Santos. The roadway, which handles a large flow of vehicles, is one of the main access routes to the port complex and had been the subject of complaints, especially regarding the asphalt, which contains potholes and uneven sections that increase accident risks.

Perimeter Avenue connects the Historic Center to Ponta da Praia and, due to the intense daily flow of vehicles, mainly trucks heading to port terminals, it ends up suffering the consequences of this traffic. Drivers also complain about circulation difficulties and highlight losses resulting from poor road conditions.

The APS reported that it was necessary to hire another company to perform the work, due to the poor performance of the previous contractor. "The APS was forced to open a new bidding process, which faced several appeals from bidders. The new contract was signed in March. And work was intensified," stated the company's press office.

New contract

According to the port management company, the contract with the previous company was terminated on February 6. The new agreement (which has a 30-month duration) provides for certain measures, such as the recovery of asphalt pavement and sections with cobblestones, repairs to the stormwater drainage system, among others, in areas under the responsibility of the Port Authority.

Furthermore, the contract also includes the supply of materials, equipment and specialized labor to ensure the completion of tasks on the Avenue.

With work resuming, crews began operating at strategic points. Resurfacing is taking place on Augusto Barata Avenue, across from the BTP terminal, in the direction of Ponta da Praia. There are also interventions on Antônio Prado Avenue, in the stretch between Cristiano Otoni Street and the grade crossing of Warehouse 1. Pothole repair operations occur daily, on demand, minimizing risks for vehicle drivers.
