The Santos Port Authority (APS) signed, at the end of business on Friday, June 12, the contract for the deepening dredging of the navigation channel of Santos Port. The new depth will be 16 meters, meeting a need of the shipping market and expanding the capacity of the port complex.

"This is an investment we are making of nearly R$ 620 million, which aligns with Santos Port's expansion planning, so that the world's most modern cargo ship fleet can access the terminals without difficulty, at any time and without depending on tidal conditions, increasing productivity and reducing costs," said Anderson Pomini, president of the Santos Port Authority.

The deepening of Santos Port's channel will take place 14 years after the last work, when the depth was increased to 15 meters. In that period, ships have evolved and require greater draft. With this work, the APS aims to guarantee users of the port complex better infrastructure.

The company that will carry out the deepening is Jan de Nul do Brasil. The value is R$ 617.9 million, for a period of five years of works. The contract also includes maintenance dredging of the new design for a period of two years.
