Santos (SP) – Santos Port Authority (APS) remains committed to the recovery of the historic ship Professor Besnard, a vessel considered an important heritage site of Brazilian maritime and port history. During a press conference held this week (17th), APS president Anderson Pomini updated the progress of the work and highlighted the port authority's efforts to restore the vessel to proper preservation conditions.
According to Pomini, one of the most complex stages of the process has already been completed: the refloating of the vessel, a technical procedure that made it possible to remove the ship from its previous condition and enable the continuation of assessments necessary for its recovery.
According to the APS president, work is now focused on detailed technical analyses that will determine the actual structural condition of the vessel and the investments needed for its complete restoration. The studies will also be fundamental in defining the scope of interventions that must be carried out at a specialized shipyard.
APS informed that the process requires caution due to the historical relevance of the ship and the complexity of the operations involved. Technicians and specialists are assessing various aspects of the structure to determine the costs and feasibility of the next stages.
During the press conference, Pomini spoke about the initially planned schedule and emphasized that APS's focus is to ensure that all phases are executed with safety and technical responsibility. According to him, the objective is to ensure that recovery is carried out properly, preserving the historical importance of the vessel for future generations.
The president also highlighted that the recovery of the ship Professor Besnard is part of a broader policy of valuing Brazilian port and maritime memory. The initiative seeks not only to recover a historic vessel, but also to strengthen the preservation of heritage linked to the evolution of Santos Port and national shipping.
APS's expectation is that, after the completion of technical analyses and the definition of necessary investments, the next steps will be established for sending the vessel to the shipyard and executing the recovery works.
With refloating already completed and studies advancing, Santos Port Authority reaffirms its commitment to preserving an important landmark in Brazilian maritime sector history, demonstrating institutional effort to ensure that the ship Professor Besnard can resume its place of prominence in the national port memory.
