Representatives of the Brazilian Association of Fruit Producers and Exporters (Abrafrutas) participated in a meeting with the Colombian Association of Fresh Fruit Importers (Asifrut), in which possibilities for expanding access of Brazilian products to the Colombian market were discussed. Local importers demonstrated interest in diversifying suppliers.

The meeting is part of an action promoted by Abrafrutas to prospecting opportunities for Brazilian fresh fruits in the Colombian market. The agenda had support from Brazil's agricultural attaché in Colombia, Clóvis Serafini, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), which was already in coordination with Brazil's Embassy in Bogotá.

Currently, a significant portion of fruit imported by Colombia comes from countries such as Chile and Peru. For Brazil, the scenario represents an opportunity to expand its presence in the Colombian market with products of recognized quality, regular supply and competitive logistics.

Colombian importers also demonstrated interest in increasing the diversity of fruit purchased from Brazil. Among the products mentioned are citrus, nectarines, plums, figs, guavas and persimmons.

During the meeting, the president of Asifrut highlighted the arrival of the first shipment of Brazilian Royal Gala apples to the country, received at the Port of Cartagena de Indias. According to the entity, the product showed good commercial acceptance and transit time similar to that of fruits imported from other origins.

The rapprochement with the Colombian market occurs in a context of expansion of Brazilian fresh fruit exports. In the first quarter of 2026, the sector's external sales grew more than 20% in value and 13% in volume compared with the same period in 2025.

The result reinforces Mapa's work, in partnership with public and private institutions, to expand access of Brazilian products to international markets. Since 2023, 34 new export opportunities for Brazilian fruits have been opened.
