Finally, a new brand is arriving in Brazil that is not part of the Chinese invasion: General Motors Brazil announced that it will finally sell Cadillac models in Brazil, and they will arrive still this year. Sources linked to the brand had already floated this intention for at least three years, but things don't always roll out as fast as desired.

Furthermore, while the brand had gone all-in on electric vehicles, lower-than-expected EV adoption in the American market—a result both of the end of the initial wave of adoption by early-adopters and the Trump administration's cuts to electric vehicle incentives—made it necessary to clear production and help justify the investments already made.

Finally, now that the brand will compete in Formula 1, its presence in different markets becomes more significant and necessary. Moreover, Brazil has a strong luxury market, considering, of course, the appropriate proportions. In niche markets like this one, added value and profit per unit matter more than total sales volume.

Brazil will be the first market in South America to receive the brand's models. "The introduction of Cadillac in Brazil is a strategic decision built on the relevance of the national market and its importance within our long-term regional vision. The country brings maturity in the segment and an adequate environment for the expansion of a global luxury brand," said Thomas Owsianski, president of GM South America, in a statement from the brand.

Initially, there will be three enormous electric SUVs, very much in the American standard—Optiq, Lyric, and Vistiq—with sales in three cities: Brasília, Curitiba, and São Paulo (we miss Belo Horizonte, where there is also strong AAA-class presence).

What are Cadillac cars like?

It is normal for adaptations to be made to models aimed at the Brazilian market, according to local consumer preferences, as has already happened with other General Motors models, such as the Silverado. What we know so far are the specifications of the American models. Check below, along with their photo galleries. The brand's website in Portuguese is already online.
