Through a notice published on its website, CMA CGM announced that it will begin applying an emergency fuel surcharge due to the escalation of conflict in the Strait of Hormuz. The additional charge will take effect as of August 1st.
"Following the new escalation of hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz in recent days, fuel prices have risen sharply again, reversing the downward trend observed in recent weeks. As a result, bunker costs have increased significantly across all regions and routes, impacting the total cost of maritime transport," stated the French shipowner.
The surcharge will range from approximately US$ 65 to US$ 165 per container and will remain in effect until further notice.
