Suape Energia, located in the Suape Industrial Port Complex (PE), announced on Thursday (28th) the completion of the implementation of the Ethanol Project, a pioneering initiative that includes the world's first engine powered almost exclusively by ethanol, aimed at thermoelectric power generation.

The project was developed in partnership with Wärtsilä Energy and represents a strategic advance for Brazil's energy transition, placing Pernambuco and Brazil at the center of discussions on innovation, decarbonization and energy security. The venture now moves forward to the operational phase and future technological validation of the solution in a real-world environment.

The inauguration event was attended by representatives from the sugarcane sector (responsible for the production of sugar, alcohol and sugarcane derivatives), public authorities, members of the Pernambuco Government, Suape Port, the Energy Research Company (EPE), as well as executives and specialists from the electrical and energy sectors.

Beyond benefits related to innovation and energy transition, the project reinforces the potential for integration between the energy and sugarcane-energy sectors, expanding opportunities for national industry and regional development.

During the ceremony, spokespersons emphasized the potential of ethanol as a strategic fuel for power generation, the positive impacts for the sugarcane production chain, and the opportunities that the technology can open for the development of cleaner, more flexible and sustainable energy solutions.

"We are witnessing a milestone for Brazil's energy transition. The development of the world's first engine powered almost exclusively by ethanol for thermoelectric generation reinforces the role of the Suape Industrial Port Complex in building cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions. The initiative strengthens our Energy Transition Hub, consolidating Suape as a strategic environment for innovation and decarbonization. The news announced on Thursday positions Pernambuco as a reference in the sector," said Suape's Chief Executive Officer, Armando Monteiro Bisneto.

"The challenge does not lie in production or logistics, as Brazil is already a reference in that regard, but in making the advantages of ethanol-based power generation increasingly known as a clean, stable energy source with low environmental impact and significant contribution to job creation, economic development and the country's energy independence," declared the Administrative Director and representative of Petrobras (minority shareholder), Giane Ferreira Moreira.
