VJB Navegação won, this Monday (30th), the auction held on B3 (Brazil's stock exchange), promoted by the government of the state of Minas Gerais, the Minas Gerais Development Company (Codemge), and the Infrastructure Secretariat (Seinfra) for the concession, under a public-private partnership model, of aquatic transport by barges on Lake Furnas.
The winner, which submitted a concession bid of R$ 1.1 million, with a discount of 8%, will sign a contract with a 30-year term.
It committed to making investments estimated at R$ 280 million, which will be allocated to operation and maintenance services for aquatic crossings of vehicles and passengers in the Furnas Hydroelectric Plant reservoir. Pedro Bruno, Secretary of Infrastructure, Mobility and Partnerships of Minas Gerais, said that the concession will bring challenges throughout its execution, but that he is optimistic it will deliver positive results for over 300,000 residents of Minas Gerais directly impacted. "This initiative has the potential to transform the reality of transport and mobility in the lake's surroundings," he stated.
Fernanda Alen, Director of Infrastructure and PPP at Codemge, explained that the Lake Furnas concession project was initiated in 2021 and that the auction was successful. According to her, with the concession, there is great expectation that a structural solution will be created for the region.
