JBS Terminais announced on Wednesday (27th) that it will expand its international operations at the Port of Itajaí, in Santa Catarina, with the addition of two new regular deep-sea shipping lines. The expansion will bring to 12 the number of regular routes operated at the terminal, the highest number ever recorded in the entire history of the Santa Catarina port.
One of the lines, the UCLA/Gulf to Saec String 1, will connect Itajaí to the East Coast of the United States, with calls in the Caribbean and northern South America and including strategic markets such as Houston, in the United States, and Cartagena, in Colombia. The Bossa Nova/Sirius 1, in turn, will make connections with Europe and Africa, serving logistics hubs such as Algeciras, in Spain, and Tanger Med, in Morocco.
To accompany the expansion, JBS Terminais reported that it will make investments estimated at R$ 9 million in the acquisition of 25 trucks that will be used exclusively in the transport of containers to the dock. In this way, the company will operate at the Santa Catarina terminal with fully proprietary logistics.
The delivery of the vehicles is scheduled for the end of May, and the insertion into operations will take place gradually in June. According to the company, the increase in operational capacity accompanies the continuous growth of the terminal since the resumption of activities at the port.
Currently, the terminal of the port operator has 180 thousand square meters of operational area, 1,030 meters of dock, four berths with 14 meters of depth, in addition to 1,705 plugs for reefer containers and eight reversible gates. The structure consolidates Itajaí as one of the country's main logistics hubs for reefer cargo, proteins and foreign trade operations.
