Portos do Paraná registered a 63% increase in vehicle throughput in 2026, a milestone that placed the public company in second place nationally in import and export operations for this type of cargo. According to data from Portos do Paraná's Statistics Center, between January and May 2026, the loading and unloading of cars, trucks and other vehicles at the Port of Paranaguá reached 67.6 thousand units, compared to 41.6 thousand moved in the same period last year.
China is the main country of origin and destination for vehicles handled by the Port of Paranaguá. The country is responsible for 54.8% of accumulated operations in 2026. Mexico follows with a 23.4% share, Argentina with 9.3%, Colombia with 4.4% and Germany with 2.3%.
Highest Throughput
The largest volume of vehicles moved in 2026 was recorded in May. In that month, 19,789 imports and 5,217 exports were tallied, totaling over 25 thousand vehicles moved.
Before that, the largest monthly volume had been recorded in March, with 20.9 thousand operations, comprising 15.8 thousand imports and 5.1 thousand exports.
Portos do Paraná's chief executive officer, Luiz Fernando Garcia, highlights that the Port of Paranaguá has unique characteristics in Brazil for the diversity of cargo it handles. Leading in the export of soy oil and chicken meat and in the import of fertilizers, the port is also consolidating itself as one of the country's main corridors for vehicle import and export.
Strategic location and continuous infrastructure investments are determining factors for this growth. "Recent investments expand our partners' operational capacity and make Paraná's ports increasingly competitive in this environment," states the chief executive officer.
In the accumulated total for 2025, Ports do Paraná moved 106,725 vehicles, resulting from 31,421 imports and 75,304 exports.
Volume moved grows 151% in tons
The disclosure of import and export information by the Federal Government, through Comex Stat (the Federal Government system that gathers information on foreign trade), uses throughput measured in tons as its basis.
By this measure, vehicle throughput by the Port of Paranaguá reached 87.7 thousand tons in 2026. In comparison with the same period in 2025, when 34.9 thousand tons were moved, growth was 151%.
The result raised the Port of Paranaguá's share to 14.71% of Brazilian vehicle imports and exports in 2026, placing the terminal in second position in the national ranking.
With this, Paranaguá surpassed the Port of Santos, which holds 14.66% of market share. The Port of Vitória (ES) remains in the national leadership for this segment.
In FOB values (Free on Board), which correspond to the value of the goods at the time of loading, vehicle throughput by the Port of Paranaguá totaled US$ 906.8 million in 2026. Vehicle loading and unloading operations are carried out at berth 219, a structure dedicated to this type of cargo.
