Santos, September 11, 2026 – Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP) received, for the fifth consecutive year, the Gold Seal from the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, a recognition granted by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) that holds national and international credibility.
The Brazilian GHG Protocol Program provides a public platform for the registration of annual inventories of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and classifies participating companies in three categories: bronze seal, silver seal, and gold seal. To be eligible for the Gold Seal, the highest qualification granted under the program, companies must fully report their Scope 1 and 2 emissions and submit the inventory for audit by a verification body accredited by Inmetro.
BTP has been registered in the Program since 2021 and has five complete inventories published voluntarily and verified by independent audits. In addition to monitoring and calculating direct and indirect GHG emissions, the company seeks to adopt initiatives that promote the reduction of polluting gas emissions in its port operations.
According to BTP's Chief Executive Officer, Cláudio Oliveira, the recognition is an achievement of the entire BTP team and confirmation of work initiated long ago. “We are guided by the purpose of building a lasting and relevant legacy for the port sector since the beginning of our operations at Santos Port. This commitment to positive impact, based on sustainability and transparency, is reflected in a culture of continuous improvement in favor of decarbonization”, he details.
Focused on reducing direct GHG emissions at its terminal, BTP acquired 53 fully electric e-RTGs (rubber-tired gantry cranes) for container operations in the yard. The new equipment is part of the company's investment package of approximately R$ 2 billion. At the same time, it also replaced, all at once, 40% of its light operational and commercial vehicle fleet powered by combustion with 100% electric models.
About GHG Inventories – A GHG inventory is a document that calculates and records estimates of greenhouse gas emissions that are emitted, directly or indirectly, by a company. Publication of the inventory is voluntary and occurs through the Public Emissions Registry (RPE).
About the Program – The Brazilian GHG Protocol Program (PBGHG), created in 2008 and coordinated by FGV's Center for Sustainability Studies, is responsible for adapting the GHG Protocol method to the Brazilian scenario. The result from the last evaluation cycle was released to the market in August during the Annual Event of the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, held in São Paulo.
About BTP:
Operating since 2013, BTP – a private-use terminal open to the public – has established itself as one of the largest container terminals in Latin America.
