Recife Port will receive an important infrastructure boost in the coming years. The Federal Government announced an investment package of R$ 115 million aimed at dredging the access channel and modernizing the defense systems of the Pernambuco port complex.
The announcement was made during an official agenda in Pernambuco last Friday (October 12), when Vice-President of the Republic Geraldo Alckmin and the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, signed the service order to begin dredging works and formalized new resources allocated to modernizing port infrastructure.
The main investment will be allocated to deepening dredging at the port, a work covered by the New Growth Acceleration Program (PAC). With resources exceeding R$ 100 million, the intervention will enable Recife Port to operate with a minimum depth of 12 meters, expanding its capacity to receive larger vessels and increasing logistical efficiency of operations.
According to the Federal Government, the expectation is that the works will be completed by December 2026, strengthening the competitiveness of the Pernambuco terminal on the national stage.
In addition to dredging, R$ 14.5 million was allocated for the replacement and modernization of defense systems at the berthing berths from quays 00 to 09. Defenses are fundamental structures to protect both vessels and quays during berthing operations. The forecast is that this stage will be completed by May 2027.
Management renewal through 2031
Another important announcement made during the agenda was the renewal of the delegation agreement for Recife Port to the Pernambuco State Government. With the signing of the new agreement, state administration will remain responsible for managing and operating the terminal for the next five years, extending the delegation through June 1, 2031.
The new model provides for the implementation of an action plan aimed at improving port infrastructure, services and management. Furthermore, all revenues generated by port operations must be reinvested in the complex itself, in maintenance, expansion, conservation and modernization actions.
For the port's executive director, Wagner Maciel, the investments arrive at a strategic moment for the Pernambuco economy.
According to Maciel, Recife Port plays a fundamental role in moving cargo such as malt, sugar, fertilizers, steel coils and containers, contributing directly to job creation and economic development of the state.
"The new delegation allows us to put into action a new investment plan that is essential for the Pernambuco economy, which includes maintenance dredging and renewal of the defense system," highlighted the director.
Impact on regional logistics
The works reinforce the modernization movement of Brazilian ports and are expected to expand the operational capacity of Recife Port, making it more competitive to meet the demands of foreign trade and cabotage.
With greater operational depth, reinforced safety and continued infrastructure investments, the Pernambuco terminal seeks to consolidate its position as one of the Northeast's main logistics assets, contributing to the strengthening of productive chains and to the state's integration into national and international markets.
