Ports RS announced the completion of dredging work on the Belém Channel, a project that is part of the dredging schedule for Rio Grande do Sul's waterway. In continuation of the actions, on June 12, the company also began dredging the Junco Channel.
The works are funded by the Rio Grande Plan Fund (FUNRIGS), which allocates over R$ 731 million for the reconstruction and improvement of Rio Grande do Sul's waterway and port infrastructure.
The Junco Channel works are expected to be completed in approximately 60 days and are being carried out by two Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) vessels, named Belo Monte and Mariana.
Fábio Machado, president of Portos RS, stated that the completion of dredging on the Belém Channel and the start of work on the Junco Channel represent another concrete step in the process of recovery and strengthening of Rio Grande do Sul's waterway infrastructure.
"We are advancing in a planned and continuous manner, ensuring better navigability conditions, greater safety for operations and improved logistics efficiency for Rio Grande do Sul. These investments reflect the commitment of the State Government and Portos RS to resuming development, increasing the competitiveness of our ports and waterways and strengthening a modal that is fundamental to the gaucho economy," says Machado.
The works are part of a broader contract that covers dredging of eight strategic waterway channels: Pedras Brancas, Humaitá, Cais do Porto, Navegantes, Cristal, Belém, Junco and Campista.
These initiatives represent the ongoing effort to recover and modernize waterway infrastructure, ensuring greater reliability for waterborne transport and contributing to Rio Grande do Sul's logistics integration.
