Port support operator SAAM has announced the completion of its acquisition of all operations of the Intertug group in Colombia and Mexico. The transaction, disclosed this Friday (29th), involved an investment of US$ 30.5 million to purchase the remaining 30% stake in the companies that make up the group.

Saam has held a 70% stake in Intertug since 2021, when it entered the Colombian market through an initial acquisition. With the completion of the operation, the company assumes full control of the business and expands its strategic presence in Latin America, now including direct operations in the Mexican market.

According to the company's CEO, Hernán Gómez, the investment is aligned with the company's growth plan through 2030 and reinforces Saam's position as one of the leading providers of port towage services on the continent.

The expansion occurs at a time of strengthening maritime and port activities in the Americas, driven by growth in international trade and demand for increasingly efficient and safe operations at the region's major ports.

The company's towage division, Saam Towage, currently operates a fleet of over 200 tugboats distributed across approximately 90 ports. The company carries out, on average, some 155,000 operations per year, serving different segments of commercial shipping.

Services provided include support for container ships, tankers, bulk carriers, roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessels and liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. The company also operates in activities related to offshore oil exploration and provides support for natural gas terminal development.

The acquisition reinforces Saam's strategy to expand its presence in strategic markets and consolidate an integrated platform of maritime and port services throughout the region, keeping pace with growth in global transport and logistics chains.
