Sérgio Henrique Cavalcanti Salomão, one of the leading figures in Brazilian maritime and port sector, died this Friday (19th) in Rio de Janeiro (RJ). The Brazilian Association of Container Terminals deeply lamented the loss of its founder and honorary president.
In a statement, Abratec highlighted that Sérgio Salomão's professional trajectory is intertwined with the sector's own evolution. The entity stressed that even before the organization's founding, Salomão was already a reference in the defense of Brazilian shipping and in strengthening maritime activities.
Abratec recalled his contribution to the development of cabotage, merchant marine and the country's logistical infrastructure. Throughout his career, Sérgio Salomão chaired the National Union of Maritime Shipping Companies (Syndarma), the Brazilian Association of Cabotage Shipowners (Abac) and served as managing partner of Companhia de Navegação do Norte (Conan).
"It was based on this solid experience and his recognized capacity for articulation that he helped found Abratec, an entity he chaired for years. Under his leadership, the association consolidated itself as a respected voice in defense of container terminals and in the improvement of the Brazilian port environment," Abratec stated.
Recently, Salomão received one of the most symbolic demonstrations of institutional recognition from the Brazilian Navy's Marine Corps (Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais da Marinha do Brasil).
In recent months, he faced treatment for cancer. Sérgio Salomão, who was 68 years old, leaves his wife Elza, his son Sérgio, stepdaughter Paula, siblings and grandchildren. "His legacy will remain alive in the history of the Brazilian maritime and port sector and in the memory of those who lived alongside him and witnessed his cordiality, generosity and commitment to the country's development," Abratec concluded.
