A commission of port workers, together with Sindestiva - Union of Stevedores of Santos, São Vicente, Guarujá and Cubatão, formed pursuant to a deliberation at the category's Assembly, traveled to Brasília last week to present concerns related to the future of work in the sector. The agenda included a meeting in the office of representative Daniela Reinehr, located in Annex II of the Chamber of Deputies.
During the meeting, the workers reported anxiety about the possible loss of exclusivity of port labor, which could open space for the entry of professionals external to the current system. According to the commission, this change could result in wage reduction, increased precariousness and advancement of outsourcing processes.
Another point highlighted was the risk of weakening collective bargaining. The representatives warned that any eventual changes could concentrate powers in management bodies, compromising the autonomy of organized categories and the capacity for direct negotiation with port operators.
On the same day, the president of the Stevedores' Union, Bruno Santos, was also at the Chamber of Deputies, where he had the opportunity to dialogue with representative Leônidas Cristino. The conversation reinforced the impacts of possible changes and the need to preserve historical rights of port workers.
The mobilization in Brasília is part of a broader strategy by the category to expand institutional dialogue and seek political support in face of the transformations under discussion in the Brazilian port sector.
