The Minister of Ports and Airports, Tomé Franca, presented on Wednesday (27th) the Manaus Moderna Terminal project in Amazonas. The new terminal will be able to handle approximately 3.5 million passengers per year, in addition to transporting essential cargo, such as food and medicines. The system also counts on investments of R$ 875.9 million, with resources from the New PAC (Growth Acceleration Program).
The undertaking, conducted by the Ministry of Ports and Airports in partnership with the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (Dnit), will directly serve 61 riverside municipalities, the city of Manaus and approximately 4.5 million people in the Amazon. The construction contract was signed in March of this year, and completion is expected for 2029.
The initiative includes the construction of floating docks, movable bridges, passenger and cargo terminals, operations areas, parking lots, sewage treatment station, power substation and accessibility and safety structures. The works also include improvements around the Banana Fair, an important popular commercial center in Manaus.
"We are talking about an investment of nearly R$ 900 million to expand the terminal's operational capacity and guarantee more safety, accessibility, comfort and dignity to the millions of passengers who depend daily on river transport. It is a project that strengthens logistics, drives regional economy and improves the lives of riverside populations," said Minister Tomé Franca.
