Vast Infraestrutura announced on Wednesday (March 1st) that it carried out on March 28th, at Porto do Açu in São João da Barra, in the northern part of Rio de Janeiro state, the first ExxonMobil transhipment operation for crude oil in Brazil. According to the company, the equivalent of one million barrels was handled at Vast's Petroleum Terminal (T-Oil), produced from the Bacalhau Field in the Campos Basin.

The company reported that the operation, which involved two Suezmax-class tanker vessels, the tanker Primeway and the lightering vessel Windsor Knutsen, was part of its production evacuation logistics from the Santos Basin field. It also stated that T-Oil is the only private terminal in Brazil authorized to operate Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC)-class vessels and that it is licensed to handle up to 1.2 million barrels per day.

According to Vast, in 2025 it handled 30.6 million metric tons of crude oil destined for the external market. The volume, the company reported, accounted for 48% of all crude oil loaded via terminals in the country for export in the year.

The Bacalhau Field is operated by Equinor, which holds a 40% stake, in partnership with ExxonMobil Brasil, which holds the same percentage, and Petrogal Brasil, which holds 20%, under a production-sharing regime. ExxonMobil Brasil is Vast's most recent client, which serves 13 companies, and production from the field marks the company's first output after more than a century in the country.
