Santos Port Authority (APS) started on Friday, July 17, the project to deepen the navigation channel at Santos Port from 15 meters to 16 meters. After obtaining the revocation of an injunction that suspended the bidding results, APS issued a work order authorizing the bidding winner, Jan de Nul do Brasil Dragagem Ltda., to begin work.
The deepening dredging expands the capacity of the Santos port complex. The project includes stages for environmental licensing of the project; preparation of Basic and Executive Design projects; execution of deepening dredging; and execution of maintenance dredging of the new draft specification for a period of up to two years.
With the issuance of the work order, Jan de Nul began environmental studies (EIA/RIMA) necessary to obtain environmental licensing from Ibama (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources). The deadline for completion of this first phase is up to 21 months.
