French group CMA CGM released its financial results for the first quarter of 2026 on Friday (22nd), posting total revenue of US$ 13.2 billion, a performance 0.2% lower than that observed in the same period last year.
According to the company, Ebitda reached US$ 2.1 billion, representing a 31.6% decline year-on-year. The Ebitda margin stood at 16%, an index 7.3% lower compared to the first three months of 2025.
Despite the financial contraction, the group reported operational growth in maritime shipping. The volume transported reached 5.9 million TEUs in the quarter, an advance of 1.5% compared to the same period last year.
Revenue from the maritime division totaled US$ 8 billion, down 8.5%, a result mainly attributed to the reduction in average revenue per TEU, which stood at US$ 1,351, representing a 9.8% decline versus 2025.
Ebitda in the maritime segment fell to US$ 1.5 billion, from US$ 2.5 billion recorded in the first quarter of last year. The Ebitda margin contracted to 18.6%, reflecting the reduction in international freight rates, despite the recovery in spot rates observed at the end of the quarter.
On the other hand, the logistics area showed growth. Revenue from the segment reached US$ 4.6 billion, an increase of 6.6% compared to the same period of 2025. Nevertheless, the Ebitda of the division fell 17.2%, closing at US$ 330 million.
The company also highlighted sharp growth in so-called "other activities," whose revenue advanced 59.1%, reaching US$ 1.3 billion. The segment's Ebitda came to US$ 294 million, up 90% year-on-year.
Another point highlighted by CMA CGM was the impact of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East on global maritime trade. According to the company, the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran continues to affect operating costs, mainly due to oil price volatility and fluctuations in freight rates.
Despite the challenging scenario, the company stated that it intends to address instabilities through diversification of its operations, logistics flexibility and strengthening of its global network, supported by a financial position considered solid.
