On Thursday (22nd), the federal government launched the modernization and expansion plan for the Manaus Moderna Waterway Terminal, in the Amazonas capital, ending a wait of more than 25 years. The groundbreaking took place when the first pile of the new structure was installed, at an event attended by Tomé Franca, Minister of Ports and Airports.
The project calls for the installation of 1,400 piles to support a platform of 40,000 square meters. The new facility was designed to revitalize one of the region's main inland waterway connection points, including climate-controlled waiting and service areas, a playground, common areas with concrete benches and a covered parking lot equipped with solar panels for energy generation.
The central purpose of the interventions is to expand accessibility and ensure comfort for the population that depends exclusively on rivers to travel from Manaus and other cities in the state. During the ceremony, Minister Tomé Franca highlighted the effort to bring the plan to fruition, emphasizing the direct impact of the work in transforming river mobility and ensuring greater dignity for passengers.
