During an official agenda at Santos Port, Brazil's Minister of Ports and Airports and Santos Port Authority president Anderson Pomini signed a commitment contract aimed at releasing federal funds for the Santos–Guarujá tunnel project.
The initiative follows a decision by Brazil's Court of Accounts (Tribunal de Contas da União), which had ordered the precautionary suspension of approximately R$ 2.6 billion after identifying governance flaws and risks in the application of public resources.
With the signing of the commitment, the federal government and the Port Authority move forward in building a more robust management model, including clear rules for control, oversight and accountability, as required by the TCU.
The document formalizes the guidelines necessary to ensure greater transparency in the use of public funds and establishes the basis for resuming the flow of investments in the project.
The expectation is that the measure will help unblock federal funding and maintain the project's timeline, considered strategic for urban mobility and logistics in the Baixada Santista region.
The Santos–Guarujá tunnel is highlighted as one of Brazil's main infrastructure works and foresees construction of the country's first submerged tunnel, significantly reducing travel time between the two cities.
