Norcoast has expanded its cabotage network with the inclusion of Rio Brasil Terminal (RBT), at Rio de Janeiro Port, on its regular shipping route. The first operation was carried out with the vessel NC Breda, marking the beginning of the new call, aimed at domestic cargo transport and feeder services.
With this development, Rio de Janeiro Port now integrates a route that connects Manaus (AM), Pecém (CE), Suape (PE), Salvador (BA), Santos (SP), Paranaguá (PR), Itajaí (SC) and the Rio de Janeiro terminal.
The inclusion strengthens the logistics link between the Manaus Free Trade Zone and the Southeast, while expanding transport options for shippers in the region, offering greater operational predictability, flexibility and integration between maritime, rail and road modes.
The operation will also enable the handling of cargo originating in Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais and the interior of São Paulo. The expectation is to offer greater transport efficiency, expand the company's logistics coverage and encourage the use of cabotage as an alternative for cargo movement in the country.
"We want to expand cabotage's reach, expanding our service portfolio and service network in a consistent and sustainable manner. We are tracking demand from these sectors and are betting on value creation through increased supply, cabotage promotion and regional development," said Marcio Salmi, commercial director of Norcoast, in a statement.
According to the company, the expansion is part of Norcoast's growth strategy, which aims to broaden its presence in the domestic market and meet the demand from segments such as consumer goods, steel and beverages.
RBT's president and chief executive officer, Roberto Lopes dos Santos, stated that Norcoast's arrival reinforces the terminal's role in national logistics integration and contributes to strengthening cabotage in the sector.
