Odebrecht Engenharia & Construção (OEC) delivered to the Brazilian Navy last Wednesday (18th) the building of the Comando do Centro de Instrução e Adestramento Almirante Átilla Monteiro Aché (Ciama) and the Fuel Oil Supply System of the Submarine Base of Ilha da Madeira (BSIM), at the Naval Complex of Itaguaí (RJ). The facilities are part of the support infrastructure for the submarine force and the Submarine Development Program (Prosub).

According to the company, the new Ciama command building, which will be used for the training and qualification of submarine force military personnel, offers a modern and integrated environment, with a built area of 4,206 square meters and structure to accommodate up to 70 officers and 184 enlisted personnel, in addition to a student body of up to 230 people. It features administrative offices, classrooms, locker rooms, common areas, library, printing facility, refrigeration workshop, carpentry shop, information technology center, computer lab and electronics laboratory.

The Fuel Oil Supply System, according to Odebrecht, was sized to serve the vessels of the Submarine Force Command and others that berth at the quays of the Itaguaí Naval Complex. The structure includes two storage tanks with a capacity of 700,000 liters each.

In addition to these, there is a third tank, intended for sludge removal, with a capacity of 390,000 liters and with possibility of expansion. The system also includes a pump house, distribution networks interconnected to the quays and a water and oil separator.

The Navy emphasized that the infrastructure deliveries represent another milestone that consolidates the continuity of Prosub and strengthens the operational capability of the naval force. During the ceremony, the commander of BSIM, Captain Leandro Freitas Ribeiro, stressed the importance of the new infrastructures. "With the inauguration of this new system, BSIM expands its 'service menu', increasing its capabilities to provide the best possible support to the nation's greatest defense asset: the Riachuelo-class submarines and the future conventionally-armed nuclear submarine," said CMG Freitas.

The commander of Ciama, CMG Marcio Claudio Bonfim Oliveira, highlighted the relevance of the new structure for enhancing teaching and training activities. "The construction of this building represents an important advance for Ciama, especially for the Submarine School, providing modern and adequate facilities for the training and development of our submariners," he declared.

Norberto Odebrecht contractor director for Prosub-EBN Felipe Piler added that the delivery of these facilities represents another milestone achieved in this program, reaffirming an institutional commitment built by the company over more than 15 years in Prosub. He also said that a new phase will begin shortly through the works of the Specialized Maintenance Complex.
