The Ports of Paraná has announced the advancement of the second phase of the expansion and modernization project for the Liquid Bulk Pier (PPGL) at Paranaguá Port. The planned investment is R$ 100.3 million, with an estimated timeline of 13 months for completion from the issuance of the work order.
The results of the selection of the company responsible for the works were published in the State Official Gazette last Wednesday (the 1st), marking another step forward in the plan to strengthen port infrastructure in Paraná.
The main objective of the intervention is to allow the berthing of larger vessels, expanding the operational capacity of the pier. Currently, the site receives vessels of up to 190 meters in length and draft of 11.60 meters. With the updates to Maritime Traffic and Permanence Standards carried out in 2025, the port became capable of receiving vessels with draft of up to 13.30 meters, which requires structural adjustments to take advantage of this new potential.
The project provides for the installation of structures fundamental to port operations, such as a dolphin, used for mooring vessels away from the quay, in addition to two berthing dolphins, responsible for absorbing the initial impact of ships. Also planned is the construction of a new operational platform, increasing the efficiency of terminal operations.
Another relevant point of the modernization is the improvement of the connection between the liquid bulk pier and the backland terminals, which should optimize logistics flow and reduce bottlenecks in cargo movement.
The works are part of a continuous investment plan. The first phase of the PPGL readjustment began in 2025, with R$ 29 million in funding. Among the improvements already underway are the construction of a dolphin, replacement of fenders, implementation of a laser monitoring and berthing system, as well as the modernization of lighting, electrical installations and paving. A new structure for hose lifting is also being implemented.
Liquid bulk has significant participation in the port movement of the state. In 2025, it represented 12.75% of the total volume at Paraná ports. Among the main exported products are soybean oil, with over 848 thousand tons, and fuel oil, with approximately 461 thousand tons. In imports, diesel oil stands out, with over 3.2 million tons, and methanol, with approximately 1.38 million tons.
With the new investments, Paranaguá Port reinforces its strategic position in the national logistics landscape, expanding its operational capacity and preparing to meet growing foreign trade demand.
