Santos Port Authority (APS) has joined the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), one of the leading global entities in the port sector. The membership marks a new step in the international positioning of Latin America's largest port complex among the world's most important ports and expands access to initiatives focused on sustainability and operational efficiency.

Headquartered in Tokyo, IAPH brings together ports and operators from different countries and works to promote best practices related to the environment, innovation and climate resilience. By becoming a member, Santos Port joins an international network for the exchange of experiences and development of policies aligned with global maritime sector demands.

Among the main benefits of membership is access to the Environmental Ship Index (ESI), a tool that evaluates the environmental performance of vessels based on pollutant gas emissions. The system makes it possible to identify ships that exceed the standards established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), serving as a reference for policies to encourage sustainable shipping.

APS intends to use this data to improve measures already under study, such as granting tariff discounts to so-called green ships (vessels with better environmental performance). The initiative seeks to encourage less polluting practices and align the port with international decarbonization requirements.

Another highlight is participation in the World Ports Sustainability Program (WPSP), which brings together projects and actions in areas such as digitalization, infrastructure, safety, environment and energy.

The membership comes at a time when the port is already investing in solutions aimed at reducing emissions and using cleaner technologies, consolidating a strategy that combines logistics growth with environmental responsibility.

"Being part of IAPH reinforces our commitment to excellent port operations. We are bringing to Santos international sustainability standards, such as ESI, and connecting our complex to the major global discussions on efficiency and logistics decarbonization," notes Beto Mendes, APS Director of Operations.
