Santos Brasil, which operates one of the largest container terminals in Latin America, has opened an office in Caxias do Sul (RS) to facilitate contact with shippers in Rio Grande do Sul and reinforce the region's importance to the company. In addition to the new office, the company also operates the container terminal at Imbituba Port, Tecon Imbituba (SC), located approximately 350 kilometers from the Rio Grande do Sul city.
According to the company, the new office, located in the W Tower Mall, aims to deepen relationships with regional entrepreneurs, seeking solutions for their demands and overcoming logistics bottlenecks.
In March of this year, Tecon Imbituba reached its highest throughput, with 17,459 TEUs. This historic record is the result of investments aimed at increasing operational capacity, including infrastructure modernization and expansion of the workforce. Between 2024 and 2025, Santos Brasil allocated R$ 75 million for equipment acquisition and implementation of new operating systems, making it possible to offer three weekly maritime services.
The company also highlighted the integration of Tecon Imbituba with Tecon Santos, which connects cargo moved in Imbituba to the network of international routes from the São Paulo terminal, also operated by the company.
Furthermore, it emphasized the terminal's strategic location, situated between Curitiba (PR) and Porto Alegre (RS), near Florianópolis, with access via road and rail modes. The Santa Catarina unit is located in a deep-water and sheltered port, capable of receiving without restrictions the largest ships arriving at the Brazilian coast, regardless of draft or weather conditions.
This move by Santos Brasil strengthens the importance of Brazil's South in the cargo logistics and transport market, with emphasis on the steel sector, which depends on the efficiency of port terminals for cargo dispatch and distribution.
For Danilo Ramos, commercial director of port operations at Santos Brasil, the company is prepared to meet demand from the South. "We believe that this closer engagement will bring more competitive commercial solutions, strengthening shipper confidence and facilitating the development of new business from Imbituba," he states.
