Israeli shipping company ZIM Integrated Shipping Services has announced the launch of ZIM Falcon Service (ZFS), a new maritime route dedicated to connecting Asian ports to the East Coast of South America, strengthening commercial links especially between China, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.
The new service, operated exclusively by ZIM, is scheduled to start operations in September 2026, with a rotation that includes major Asian and Brazilian hubs:
Shanghai → Ningbo → Hong Kong → Yantian → Rio de Janeiro → Santos → Paranaguá → Navegantes → Montevideo → Buenos Aires → Shanghai.
The initiative is part of the shipowner's strategy to expand its presence in Latin America and offer faster logistics solutions for time-sensitive cargo, including agricultural products, industrial goods and refrigerated cargo.
Santos gains prominence in new Asia-South America route
The inclusion of Santos Port in the Falcon service underscores the importance of Latin America's largest port complex in international foreign trade connections.
According to ZIM, the new service will enable competitive transit times, notably on the Yantian to Santos route, estimated at 26 days, offering a more efficient alternative for importers and exporters relying on direct connection with the Asian market.
Beyond Santos, Brazilian ports Rio de Janeiro, Paranaguá and Navegantes will also join the new operational network, expanding options for national shippers.
Focus on agricultural, industrial and refrigerated cargo
One of the differentials announced by the company lies in handling cargo requiring greater operational control.
ZIM highlights that the Falcon Service will have capacity to handle refrigerated cargo, utilizing its reefer container infrastructure and outlet availability to ensure the integrity of the cold chain.
The service will also be prepared for special cargo, including:
- out-of-gauge cargo;
- hazardous materials;
- electric equipment and vehicles;
- high-value industrial cargo.
For Brazilian foreign trade, the new connection represents an opportunity mainly for sectors such as agribusiness, frozen foods, animal protein, fruits and manufactures that have strong commercial ties with Asia.
Shipping competition grows on Latin America routes
The launch of Falcon Service comes at a time of strong competition among global shipowners for participation in major commercial routes.
Shipping companies have been expanding direct services and reducing transhipment dependency, seeking to offer greater predictability to customers and reduce operational risks in global supply chains.
With the new route, ZIM reinforces its strategy of operating in specific markets where it seeks differentiation through agility, operational flexibility and specialized service.
First voyage scheduled for September
The first commercial voyage of ZIM Falcon Service is scheduled for September 13, 2026, with initial departure from Shanghai Port. Until the new operation begins, the company's current ASE service will continue serving its customers.
The expansion confirms a trend in international maritime transport: beyond fleet size, shipowners are competing in the market through the ability to offer faster, more reliable routes aligned with the specific needs of each production chain.
```For Brazilian ports, especially Santos, the arrival of new international services reinforces the country's strategic role in global trade routes.
