The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, participated in the signing of an agreement for the development of the executive project for the new headquarters of the Federal Police Delegation at Santos Port (SP). The initiative represents a decisive step toward enabling the project, by ensuring the technical detail necessary for the start of construction.
For Costa Filho, the new structure is strategic in combating transnational crime and protecting maritime borders. "As the largest port facility in Latin America, Santos Port faces complex challenges, such as international drug trafficking, smuggling and other forms of organized crime. Facing this scenario requires robust infrastructure and expanded operational capacity, and that is what the new Federal Police headquarters will provide," he stated.
The facility will be built within the port area, with direct access to the estuary channel, on a site of approximately 5.8 thousand square meters. The building will have ten floors and will bring together, in a single complex, all of the Federal Police's operational and administrative structures in Santos. "Today's action represents a strategic decision by the Brazilian state to strengthen its presence in one of the country's most relevant and challenging environments," declared the superintendent of the Federal Police in São Paulo, Rodrigo Luiz Sanfurgo.
"The country's main logistics hub, it is fundamental to the national economy and international competitiveness. Precisely for this reason it is a constant target of criminal organizations, especially drug trafficking," the superintendent warned.
According to Sanfurgo, the strategic location of the new headquarters represents a leap in quality in the Federal Police's operational capacity to protect the port community. "Workers and institutions operating at the Port need a safe, predictable and sound environment to carry out their activities. Combating organized crime requires strategy, integration and continuous technological investment, coordinated action and effective presence in the environment, especially at critical points. This is what this project represents," he emphasized.
More investments in Santos
In addition to the launch of the Federal Police headquarters project, further investments at Santos Port were announced. The resources are for the second phase of the Guarujá Perimeter and for the construction of two new berths at Alemoa.
"In three years, we will deliver the second phase of the Guarujá Perimeter. It is three kilometers with an investment of R$ 1 billion. Together with the tunnel and the airport, the project will transform the reality of this city that is so important for port operations," explains Anderson Pomini, president of Santos Port Authority.
Regarding the new Alemoa berths, Pomini stated that construction has R$ 350 million in investments from partner companies. "Through this partnership, the Port grows on its margins, through perimeters, with new berth infrastructures and is able to meet growing demand for the movement of all cargo," he emphasized.
Pomini also spoke about investments in the Santos-Guarujá Tunnel. According to him, the project schedule is on track, as is the availability of resources in the order of R$ 2.6 billion for the work by the Port Authority.
According to Minister Silvio Costa Filho, all these infrastructure investments are fundamental to strengthening Santos Port and increasingly expanding common operations. "It is more than R$ 4 billion in investments in pier requalification. We also have resources from private terminals for infrastructure improvements. In addition to the Federal Police building, all other investments announced will also be essential to strengthen the largest port in Latin America," he stated.
