The Port of São Francisco do Sul, SC, has completed the maintenance phase of its internal berthing and maneuvering area (basin). The intervention was carried out by the Belgian dredge Galileo Galilei, which removed 170,000 cubic meters of seabed sediment, ensuring the continuity of 14-meter depth at the site.
The work covered an area of 133,000 square meters, equivalent to approximately 20 football fields. The material removed was disposed of in a zone authorized by environmental agencies, located offshore, 23 km away from the port complex. The total value of the service was R$ 8 million, fully funded by the Port Authority's own resources.
According to the Secretary of Ports, Airports and Railways, Ivan Amaral, the intervention is fundamental for local infrastructure and economy. "The completion of this work demonstrates the responsibility of São Francisco do Sul Port's management in maintaining competitiveness and operational capacity," he stated.
The achievement also meets a direct request from logistics operators at the complex. According to the port's president, Cleverton Vieira, the preservation of regular basin depth is indispensable for the safe continuity of logistics activities. "It is a demand from the port community that we are meeting in this work, carried out with our own resources and which brings greater safety and efficiency at the moment of berthing and unberthing of ships," he explained
