Wilson Sons, a port and maritime logistics operator with more than 188 years in the market, held on Wednesday (May 13) at the company's shipyard in Guarujá (SP) the launch ceremony of the tugboat WS Capella, the second in a new series of three high-powered vessels. Like the WS Halcyon, christened in January this year, the WS Capella was built at the company's shipyard and belongs to the same ASD 2312 class (23 meters long and 12 meters beam).
With azimuthal propulsion, static traction (bollard pull) of 70 tons and capacity to support the largest ships currently operating in Brazil during berthing and unberthing maneuvers, the new vessel will operate at the Port of Santos, Latin America's largest port complex.
Its modern design enables a reduction in fuel consumption, directly contributing to lower emissions. Versatile, the WS Capella also features a fire-fighting system with a capacity of 2,400,000 liters per hour of water (FiFi 1).
The vessel's godmother will be Flávia Carvalho, executive director of Wilson Sons' Maritime Agency. The new tugboats are part of Wilson Sons' fleet renewal and expansion strategy, bringing the company's total to 83 vessels operating along the Brazilian coast, and reinforce the company's commitment to safety, efficiency and sustainability of operations.
Márcio Castro, executive director of Wilson Sons' Tugboat Division, stresses that the new vessels strengthen the national logistics chain. "With its power, the WS Capella will fully meet the requirements necessary to safely serve increasingly larger ships, generating income, strengthening port infrastructure, which directly contributes to the Brazilian economy," Castro states. For Adalberto Souza, executive director of Wilson Sons' Shipyard, "the company invests in cutting-edge technology in the construction of vessels we bring to market and, for that, relies on the high qualification of our professionals, always pursuing operational excellence".
Another tugboat of the ASD 2312 class is being built at the Guarujá shipyard, with delivery scheduled for the third quarter of this year. With the new series, Wilson Sons will reach the milestone of 156 vessels built at its shipyard, which has more than 80 years of history.
