The Minister of Ports and Airports (MPor), Tomé Franca, signed a service order on Thursday (April 21) at the Civil House for the start of construction of the new passenger terminal at Ji-Paraná Airport in Rondônia. The contract for execution of the project will have a total investment of R$ 34.9 million, resulting from a partnership between the Union and the Rondônia state government.

Of the total resources, R$ 25 million will be provided by the Union. The state government's counterpart will be R$ 9.9 million. The works are part of the New Growth Acceleration Program (Novo PAC) and aim to expand airport infrastructure, facilitating access to the region.

The Minister of Ports and Airports, Tomé Franca, highlighted the importance of coordination among different levels of government to enable investments and expand regional development through airport infrastructure. "When the National Congress, state government, and federal government work together, we can unblock important projects and bring more development to the population through airport infrastructure," he stated.

For the Minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations of the Civil House, José Guimarães, works like that of Ji-Paraná airport drive socioeconomic development in Brazil's interior. "A country with continental dimensions like ours only advances with complete infrastructure. For that, there must be partnership between the public entity and the private sphere. Brazil's sustainable growth therefore depends on public-private partnerships," he emphasized.

Works at Ji-Paraná Airport

The project provides for the construction of a new terminal with 2,584 m² of built area. The space will feature six check-in counters, five sales and reservations counters, as well as three boarding positions and a boarding lounge. The structure will have capacity to serve up to 240 passengers during peak hours, providing greater comfort, security, and operational efficiency to users.

In addition to terminal construction, the contract includes improvements to the airport access road system, including earthwork, paving, drainage, and road signage services. The expected timeframe for completion of services is 18 months.

Located in the geographic center of Rondônia, Ji-Paraná is the state's second most populous municipality and plays a strategic role in regional integration. The city is home to an expanding industrial district and stands out in agricultural production, especially in cattle ranching and milk production.

The city's mayor, Affonso Cândido, also celebrated this achievement for the municipality. "This is a historic moment for us, as the population has been waiting for this work for a long time. There are 16 municipalities around the Ji-Paraná macroregion, totaling more than 500,000 inhabitants. The population wins with this union of forces," he celebrated.

More investments in the state

During the signing ceremony, Tomé Franca also spoke about the AmpliAR program, which encourages private investment in regional airports. "In addition to what we announced today, there are millions in AmpliAR investments in the airports of Cacoal (RO) and Vilhena (RO). Furthermore, Infraero is also investing in the Ariquemes (RO) terminal. At this moment, therefore, four Rondônia airports are receiving federal government funds, which will transform the airport infrastructure of the state and boost socioeconomic development in the region," explained Tomé.

Roberto Garibe, special secretary of the PAC at the Civil House, also emphasized the importance of the AmpliAR program. "Historically, regional aviation faced a major challenge: becoming a sustainable investment at the end user level. So, the approach found by the Ministry of Ports and Airports to address this, through AmpliAR, was quite clever. It is a very smart way to get large operators to move to areas with lower economic attractiveness. Now, it is possible to develop demand at these terminals, expanding national integration with the PAC's contribution as well," he said.
